Anna & Mike’s winter wedding at Bisham Abbey
Bisham Abbey is one of my favourite wedding venues for photography, and I am really chuffed to now be one of their recommended suppliers. The oak panelled Warwick Room is the perfect place for the ceremony as it allows the most beautiful light to fall on the couple thanks to the large window that overlooks the grounds.
As a summer wedding venue Bisham Abbey offers it all, with the most gorgeous riverside setting for your drinks reception, where you’ll probably see plenty of rowers out on the River Thames. As a venue for winter weddings it is also perfect, as the Great Hall looks so pretty and magical lit by fairy lights, candles & the Christmas tree. There’s also some cool history about the house, including the fact that Henry VIII left the house to his fourth wife Anne of Cleves as part of their divorce settlement, although she later swapped it for another property. She must have been mad! The ghost of Lady Elizabeth Holby is also said to haunt the Great Hall, but I haven’t seen her… Yet…. You can read more about the history of Bisham Abbey here.
Adele Colby did the make up for Anna and her Mum, and not only did they both look great, but Adele was a lovely, fun person to spend the morning with. As I’ve mentioned in other blog posts, I love this time before the wedding, and it really helps when there’s a lovely & helpful make-up artist there too. Jess from Renaissance in Marlow ensured Anna’s hair stayed perfectly in place all day. Anna and Mike’s son was also with her as she got ready and he really was the most perfectly behaved baby all day.
Anna’s beautiful flowers were supplied by Debby at The Garden Room. She had provided flowers for another winter wedding I photographed at Bisham Abbey, Melanie & Damian’s wedding in December 2014. Two very different bouquets, but both equally stunning.
I have seen Sam Strange‘s close up magic before and I think he’s fab. I love a magician at a wedding, it really helps to keep the guests entertained and provides some great photo opportunities.
The Vents performed an amazing acoustic set during Anna & Mike’s drinks reception, and played a cover of one of my favourite tracks – Jonny Cash’s ‘Ring of Fire’. I could have happily just put my camera down and listened to them, but had to content myself with singing along quietly as I carried on photographing the guests. Their evening set sounded like it was also going to be great, but it was soon time for me to go home!
