Lisa & James’ wedding at The Red Lion Hotel, Henley
Bright, bold, colourful & joyful – what a day! Lisa’s flowers were certainly striking. The combination of bright yellow sunflowers, purple thistles, and delicate Easter eggs created a real ‘wow’ moment. There was nothing subtle about them, and the overall effect was incredible. Full credit goes to Beverley at Posies and Presents for creating this masterpiece, and full marks to Lisa for carrying it as it wasn’t light!
If flowers could sum up a wedding day, this bouquet would do it perfectly. The day was filled with so much fun & laughter that a pale spring bouquet would not have matched. The bright colours extended throughout the whole day, not only in the flowers, but in the church and reception decoration too. Lisa’s family love Easter, and with their wedding falling the week before the Easter weekend, there were plenty of elements to keep even the Easter bunny happy.
Lisa & James’ ceremony was at the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Chalgrove which contains the most incredible medieval wall paintings from the 14th century. Unfortunately the previous behaviour of other (less well behaved) photographers has obviously soured the vicar’s view of my profession, so I had to stand at the back of the church to photograph the ceremony. While this means I cannot see the expression of the couple during most of the ceremony, it did allow me to capture a lovely moment with the page boy who wanted to make sure he had the best view of all the action.
It’s always lovely to be back at The Red Lion Hotel in Henley-on-Thames, where Lisa and James held their reception and it’s always nice to be able to get down to the river for a few photos. Party poppers, bubbles and shots all helped with the party atmosphere, and we also had a special visit from our very own local celebrity Phillip Schofield (sort of). Sunflowers brightened every nook and cranny in the room, and even made it onto the spectacular Beauty and the Beast themed wedding cake created by Jenny at Little Flower Cakes in Thame.
I love emotion at the wedding, and I think it’s fair to say that Lisa showed plenty of it. There were tears. A lot of tears. They were mostly tears of joy and laughter, and you can’t ask for more than that.
I really enjoyed Lisa and James’ wedding. They are such a lovely couple and I know have a very bright future ahead of them. As bright as a sunflower.
