Nicola and Liam’s wedding at Old Luxters Barn

Laughter, bubbles, smiles, and more laughter at this Old Luxters Barn wedding

When I photographed Nicola and Liam for their pre-wedding shoot at Old Luxters Barn, we all laughed a lot. I hoped that their wedding day would be filled with just as much joy and laughter, and I wasn’t disappointed.

When I arrived at Nicola’s house it was lovely to see Mandy Driver from Big Day Hair & Make-up who I have worked with at many weddings before. Today she was responsible for the hairstyles of Nicola and her bridesmaids Lynsey, Becky, Elizabeth, Louise, Jackie & Suzanne, and I knew she would ensure the girls looked fabulous right through the day and evening.  Ashley France set up in the kitchen to do all of the makeup and again I was impressed with how beautiful but natural everyone looked – there is nothing worse than makeup that’s too heavy, but there was no danger of that here!

One of my favourite moments in the morning is seeing how the Father of the Bride reacts to seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time. For some dads this is a big moment, and can be overwhelming. For others you’d think she was just popping down the shops and it can be a bit of a non-event. It was lovely to see Nicola’s dad Matt blown away by how stunning his daughter looked, and yes, there was definitely a tear or two in his eye!

On to Old Luxter’s Barn, one of my favourite venues, where I am lucky enough to photograph lots of weddings. Here Liam and his groomsmen Brendan, Dom & Ryan were also looking might fine, and helped to keep everyone laughing throughout the day.

When Nicola arrived at the venue with her Dad and bridesmaids I got the full effect of the colour scheme for the day – three bridesmaids in pink, three in navy. I also got a closer look at the stunning hand-tied bouquets created by Joanne Caldwell – she hadn’t met Nicola before the wedding, but was relieved when Nicola said ‘I didn’t know exactly what I wanted, but this is exactly what I wanted!”

The happiness continued through the ceremony, which included a reading by Nicola’s sister Lynsey from ‘The Owl & the Pussycat’.

Instead of the more traditional flower petals as confetti, Nicola and Liam instead used bubbles, which created a lovely effect and also meant there was no mess!  I love confetti, but at times it can be a bit of a pain, as it not only creates a mess all over the floor, but also ends up down the dress, and in the hair! I’ve seen hairstyles beautifully created by a professional hair stylist pulled apart as people try to pick the confetti out from the heavily hair-sprayed styles!

One of the loveliest spots at Old Luxters Barn is the vineyard which creates the grapes for the Chiltern Valley Winery & Brewery, which unsurprisingly looks very different throughout the year. For this wedding in May the vines were just coming out, so it was lovely to take photos of Nicola and Liam amongst the leaves.

The fun and laughter continued throughout the day, and as a wedding photographer my job was easy – everywhere I turned my lens were more people laughing and having a good time. It was also nice to see photos from the pre-wedding shoot on display on the post box and signing frame. A signing frame is a great alternative to a guest book – guests sign the mount, then after the wedding the photo is replaced with one from the wedding, and you have a permanent reminder of who helped you celebrate to hang on your wall.

I LOVE the speeches, and these were a cracking mix of hilarity and emotion, even featuring some brilliant video footage of a younger Liam.

Evening entertainment was provided by 90’s pop cover band Sega and the Boombox, whose high-energy set kept the dance floor filled.

I could go on and on about this incredible wedding, but it’s probably time for me to shut up and let the photos do the talking. I hope you enjoy looking through them.

Thank you Cheryl for these amazing pictures and so many many more. These pictures are absolutely perfect and captured all the key moments of the day.
It was so great for us to be able to see some of the things that we weren’t able to notice on the day, and see what everyone was up to 🙂 Your approach fitted our style so well and with you there we felt like you were another one of our guests just here to enjoy the day with us. Thank you for for everything you did every step of the way, you really helped to make our day that extra bit special and now we have some amazing memories to keep forever. I’m sure our paths will cross again (and not just for putting the album together 🙂 )
