Sophie & Nicks’ Bisham Abbey wedding

An almighty downpour was not able to dampen the spirits as this couple ran from Bisham church. As is often the case, one of my favourite parts of Sophie and Nick’s day was the morning spent with Sophie, her bridesmaids and her parents. It was such a fun, relaxed morning, I think we could all have happily hung out there all day, but there was a small matter of a wedding to attend.

In an ideal world I always prefer to photograph a wedding from the front of the church, looking towards the couple with their guests behind them. However, each church has their own rules and guidelines and on this occasion I was limited to only photograph from the back of the church. While this meant I was unable to capture those intimate close-up glances between the couple, All Saints Church, Bisham does look pretty spectacular looking through a wide angle.

As a wedding photographer one of my responsibilities is to keep an eye on the weather. While I normally like to allow couples time to relax after the ceremony, sometimes the black clouds rolling in means I want to photograph the important family shots straightaway. This was one such occasion, and while it was mission accomplished on the photo front, as you’ll see it would have been nice if the rain had held off for five more minutes to allow Sophie and Nick time to get in the boat for the short ride from the Church to Bisham Abbey next door. This was no shower, it absolutely poured! I was glad I had brought my two white umbrellas with us, these always look so much nicer in photos than bright coloured golfing umbrellas covered in logos! After a lovely detour on the boat, by the time we arrived at the abbey the rain had stopped and the guests were perfectly lined up to shower the couple in confetti.

I loved the bright colours of the flowers by Jan Harrison Flowers, which worked beautifully against the navy bridesmaid dresses. I love these dresses as they are very versatile and can be worn in so many different ways to suit each person’s individual taste.

As ever the Abbey provided a beautiful backdrop to the wonderful wedding of this very special couple. Congratulations Sophie & Nick, I loved spending time with you.
